Physical Education

During their time at school, pupils participate in a programme of Physical Education which is aimed to encourage them to reach their full potential in terms of performance and understanding and also to appreciate the enjoyment and benefits of exercise.

In key stage 3, years 7 to 9 pupils take part in one PE lesson and two games lessons a fortnight. The programmes consist of a half termly rotation of the following activities

PE -Dance, Gymnastics, Health Related Fitness, Swimming, Outdoor and adventurous activities and Ultimate Frisbee

GAMES— Hockey, Netball, Football, Tag rugby, Athletics and Rounder’s,

During Years 10 and 11, in addition to the activities studied during years 7 to 9 pupils are also offered a more diverse health related fitness programme to offer them opportunities we hope they will continue to pursue after they have left education.

For those pupils who wish to study Physical Education in more depth there are opportunities provided to study BTEC Certificate in sport with a further opportunity in Years 12 and 13 to study a BTEC National in sport.  Year 12 and 13 pupils also have the opportunity to achieve the Level One Community Sports Leader Award. This provides them with a nationally recognised qualification enabling them to lead sports sessions in the community.

All pupils are encouraged to join in the House Sporting Events which take place regularly, and to join the schools sports teams who compete in school fixtures and tournaments within the local area. Activities include  Athletics, Cross country, Dance, Football, Hockey and Netball and Tag Rugby. Ski-ing trips are also regularly organised.
