Music

Music is available to all key stages (Years 7-13) and is taught by one specialist teacher.

Music education enables learners to engage with and enjoy making music. Through active involvement in performing, composing and appraising at Aberdare Girls’ School, learners will develop their sensitivity to and understanding of music. Learners will develop musical skills relating to the control, manipulation and presentation of sound and should improve their performing, composing and appraising by developing their thinking, communication, number and ICT skills. At all levels pupils will develop their musical skills by singing, playing instruments, improvising, composing, arranging, listening to and appraising music with perception and attention to detail.

Instrumental tutors visit the school on a regular basis and lessons are available at no cost in the following areas: Upper Strings, Lower Strings, Harp, Guitar, Woodwind, Percussion and Brass.

Extra-Curricular activities take place during lunch-times and in after school sessions. We currently have a School Orchestra, Senior Choir, Junior Choir and String Ensemble. Pupils perform in assemblies, concerts and enjoy taking part in the Bi-Annual School Production and Eisteddfod.
