BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Hospitality
The hospitality industry consists of a wide range of organisations, all of which benefit from employees with appropriate training and qualifications. The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate has been designed to equip learners interested in working in the hospitality and catering sector with an understanding of its key elements, in preparation for either entering employment or progressing to further studies.
The structure of the course allows you to develop your interests and gain a broad foundation, and it introduces you to new areas, such as customer relations in the hospitality industry, basic culinary skills or planning and running a hospitality event.
Assessment
The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Hospitality consists of two core units plus four specialist units. Pupils will submit several assignments for assessment and could achieve a pass, merit or distinction as their result.
This form of assessment allows pupils to receive feedback on their progress throughout the course as they provide evidence towards the grading criteria which they can then use to improve their result.
Evidence for assessment may be generated through a range of activities including workplace assessment, role play and oral presentation.
Employment opportunities
Following completion of the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Hospitality, successful candidates would be able to enter initial employment, at a junior level, in such positions as hotel receptionist, bar person or food service assistant.
Further vocational and academic qualifications
The achievement of the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate has the equivalence of 2 GCSEs graded A*-C. If you achieve an overall pass grade or better in the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Hospitality, it is possible for you to progress further to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Hospitality, or to enrol on another Level 2 programme, such as a relevant NVQ, or to move on to a higher level qualification such as a Level 3 BTEC National Certificate specialising in your preferred field.
