As a school we are trying to develop our links with our local community as much as possible.  We have already developed the following:

1)      A weekly column in the Aberdare Leader with our school news

2)      Participation in local events and guest speakers are encouraged and this year some of the things we have introduced include:

• Local fire brigade into assembly
• STEM ambassadors working with More Able & Talented pupils
• Cardiff University film project with year 10
• The ‘IS IT?’ Theatre Company have delivered a variety of plays
• A summer concert with the Con Voce Choir
• STEM Techniquest working with the Science Department
• Author Phil Carradice has worked with year 7 on a literacy project
• Aberystwyth and Cardiff universities have been in to speak with the 6^th form
• Mr Tom Chigbo from Cambridge University came in to speak with the More Able & Talented pupils
• The Royal British Legion and the Army/Air cadets came to our Remembrance Service
• Year 8 took part in the RCT Police Liaison Quiz
• Father Robert Davies came to our assemblies to deliver a service on Advent

3)      Developing links with local charities including:

• HAT Foundation
• The Aberdare Rotary Club
• The Cynon Valley Soroptimists
• The Aberdare branch of the British Red Cross
• The local Salvation Army
• MacMillan Cancer Care

4)      Entering local competitions such as:

• RCT Envirovision
• Rotary Youth Speaks
• BTFT Nominations and Awards
• HSBC Stock Market Challenge
• RCT Police Quiz

5)      Developing links with local employers and organisations such as:

• Cardiff City Football Club
• Aberdare Library
• EBP
• Careers Wales
