About The School

Aberdare Girls' School is a single sex comprehensive school for pupils aged 11 - 18. It is maintained by the unitary authority of Rhondda Cynon Taff.

The School's Aims are:

The school is housed on two sites.  The Lower School pupils (years 7 & 8) are accommodated at Y Gadlys, whilst Middle and Upper School pupils (years 9-13) are accommodated at Plasdraw.

The education of girls in Aberdare has a long tradition of excellence, dating back to 1913 when the Aberdare Girls' Intermediate School was located in new premises at the Plasdraw site in Cwmbach Road. This subsequently became the location of the Girls' Grammar School in 1952.

Aberdare Girls' School was established as a comprehensive school in 1978. It was founded through the merger of Aberdare Girls' Grammar School at the Plasdraw site and the secondary modern at Y Gadlys site.
